Portfolio

Here are some projects that I have developed or been a part of.

Fika portfolio item

Fika

Fika is the Swedish concept of having a coffee break accompanied by pastries or cookies, and this app with the same name helps you find the best place to do so based on your desired location. By utilizing the Foursquare API, a list of search results sorted by rating are presented to the user. Clicking each venue allows further exploration of reviews, photos, opening hours and of course a Google map of how to reach the place.

This was the first time I used React/Redux to build a web application, something I found to be a pleasant experience and which has lead to them being my main tools of trade for future projects. Getting the hang of the workflow with actions, reducers and connecting it all to React was naturally a challenge at first, but by using the tools so extensively it made me comfortable with how they work and how to best make use of them.

Upnotes

Using the Jamendo API, Upnotes is a web application which lets you browse and play music from independent artists. The app provides the user with a range of options to find the music. Click through to top lists of artists, tracks and albums, filter it all based on music genre and popularity over a desired time span, or perform a custom search based on keywords. Play songs and add more to the queue to keep listening.

After building Fika and with the positive impression the tools used previously had given me, I wanted to further solidify my knowledge in React with Redux. To do so, I opted for a slightly more challenging project which would force me to work more intensively with the state than before. Presenting the content provided by the API was nothing new, but connecting it to the player and having the player allow extensive user interaction was the challenge in this project.

Pomodoro timer portfolio item

Pomodoro Timer

The pomodoro technique is a time management method which basically involves breaking down your work into units of 25 minutes separated by short 5-minute breaks. This simple pomodoro timer allows you to start/pause units of work as well as timing your breaks, and it all comes with an alarm when it's time to switch.

I built this project as a part of the Free Code Camp Front-End curriculum, but opted for using Vanilla JS rather than including jQuery to give myself the chance to learn how to effectively interact with the DOM without using any libraries.

TwitchTv portfolio item

Twitch.tv

This app uses the Twitch API to display a list of streamers and their current streaming status. See what they're currently up to and use the filter tabs to quickly switch between offline and online users. Just click any of the streamers that are currently online to directly be sent to their live stream on Twitch.TV.

This was also one of the projects I built as a part of the Free Code Camp curriculum. It taught me how to effectively use API's and how to present the acquired data in a nice way.

Pixafox portfolio item

Pixafox

This is the landing page for a small web agency Pixafox. The goal was for it to be a simple, responisve, easy to navigate, lightweight and modern looking website.

I created this together with another developer during some pair programming sessions. It has a hand-coded responsive navigation menu, a contact form and is mobile friendly.
